Every member of the Strawhat Pirate crew has his or her own goal to achieve. Joining the crew might one day allow him or her to reach that goal. Their goals might differ but some of them can be reached directly by traveling the world. Amongst the Strawhat Pirate crew members two of them have goals directly linked to traveling the word through the different seas. Those two members are Nami and Franky.
- Nami: “I’m gonna use my navigation skills to travel to all the world’s oceans and then I’m gonna make a world map of everything I see!” (Episode 35)
- Franky: “My dream is to build one last ship out of the treasure tree! A ship of dreams that can sail across any sea”. (Episode 313)
Nami has already achieved the first part of her dream, acquiring navigation skills that can facilitate traveling around the world. Now all that remains is to travel the world and then draw maps of the different seas and islands she’ll see. She has traveled through East Blue, Reverse Mountain, many islands on Grand Line, she’s even been to Skypiea 10 000 meters above the ground and the Fish-man island and 10 000 meters below sea level and more but there are still many places she hasn’t been. Once she has traveled across the world she’ll have all the knowledge required to draw a map of the world and complete her dream.
Franky has also achieved the first part of his dream, after building the ship of his dream made from the Adam Tree Wood, the Thousand Sunny. All that remains is for the Thousand Sunny to travel across all the seas. Initially, in order for his dream to be fulfilled Franky didn’t plan on traveling on said ship he built, he plans on doing as he master Tom did, build a ship for adventures to travel on across the world. But since Luffy invited him to travel with them which would also make repairing the Thousand Sunny when needed easier, Franky accepted. Now all that remains is for Franky to travel the world on the Thousand Sunny in order to complete his dream.
There are other Strawhats whose dream will be achieved by traveling the world, but their goals aren’t directly tied to that, like Sanji and Brook. Sanji wants to find the “All Blue”. Although he doesn’t need to travel the world to find it, it stands to reason that by doing so we will eventually discover the location of the “All Blue” during his journey. Brook wants to go back to Reverse Mountain and see Laboon to fulfill the promises he and his crewmates made to Laboon. He doesn’t need to travel the world to do that but he’ll eventually reach Reverse Mountain just by traveling across the seas.
