Zoro is the first crew member that Luffy recruited on his journey to become the new Pirate King. Zoro is Luffy’s right-hand man. Zoro is a swordsman who invented his own fighting style, the Santoryu, Three Swords style. Zoro invented his fighting style while he was a child in order to defeat his childhood friend Kuina who he has never beaten. Before her death Kuina and Zoro promised each other that one of them would become the best swordsman in the world. After Kuina’s death vowed to fulfill his promise to become the strongest swordsman in the world. During the straw hats 2 year hiatus, Zoro asked the strongest swordsman himself, Dracule Mihawk, to train him in order to become stronger and one day become the number one swordsman in the World. Zoro is never as strong as he is while wearing his bandana, not that it has any special power over him from what he says himself. Zoro is the only other confirmed member of the Straw Hat Pirate, besides Luffy, who has Haoshoku Haki. Zoro has the strongest loyalty towards his captain Luffy amongst all the Mugiwaras. Zoro is nicknamed the “Pirate Hunter Zoro”.
